Arts & Events Committee
This committee plans many art-related programs, workshops, and conference sessions to keep professionals abreast of new ideas in arts programming, funding and grants, marketing, partnerships, legislation, special events and cultural events.
Athletics Committee
This committee functions as a resource center for athletic programmers within Illinois. They plan sessions at the State Conference and organize round table workshops.
Awards and Recognition Committee
This committee collects nominations and selects the recipients of Marcy Adams Spirit Award and the Profession of the Year and Young Professional of the Year Awards which are awarded annually. These awards are presented in November at the Joint Awards Luncheon Ceremony held in conjunction with Facility Management Section. Committee members also assist with the organization and presentation of this ceremony.
Continuing Education Committee
This committee provides the “mental food” for keeping us stimulated and growing as contributing professionals. Most committee members are representatives of other sub-committees and are responsible for coordinating the educational sessions at the annual conference and workshops during the year.
Early Childhood Committee
This committee is concerned with recreation activities for children ages’ birth to five-years. The Committee meets monthly for a round-table discussion of current issues along with planning the annual Instructor Recognition Dinner, the Preschool Bus Tour and educational sessions at the State Conference.
Elections and Social Committee
This outstanding committee meets monthly/bimonthly to discuss and plan several socials throughout the year. We assist in the planning of the annual meeting at the State Conference and at least one other fun and creative social for the Recreation Section. Some events run by this committee were the Summer Kickoff at Navy Pier, Connect Four Championship and the Scavenger Hunt at the conference hotel. The committee members recruit and recommend IPRA members for the Recreation Section and its committees. Committee members also assist in the nomination and election process for the IPRA Board of Director. We are looking for creative and innovative people willing to take chances and have a good time doing it.
Recreation Administrators Committee
This committee meets to discuss and offer educational and social opportunities as well as be an information exchange between the superintendent and middle management positions.
School Age and Day Camps Committee
This committee meets to discuss topics related to the kindergarten through fifth-grade age group. Field trips, working with school districts, fees, staff handbooks, licensing, staffing, and parent communication are always a topic at School Age Committee meetings. The Committee is dedicated to helping agencies start before and after school programs. Past projects have included the organization of joint district field trips and conducting staff training workshops. Seminars have been conducted on child development needs, discipline, leadership styles, and activities for school age children. The School-Age committee hosts the Annual Camp Counselor’s Challenge.
Senior Committee
The committee strives to promote quality senior recreation events, which provide challenging opportunities for professional growth. Committee accomplishments include the sponsorship of the annual Six County Senior Olympics, in which 600 senior athletes participate in over 300 athletic events, coordination of the senior Directors Workshop as well as organizing informative continuing education sessions pertinent to today’s senior recreation professional. In addition, members develop a vast network of resources, as well as helpful hints on daily programming and/or group travel.
Teen Committee
The committee is taking the mystery out of teen programming through workshops, networking and program planning. The Teen Committee is responsible for planning and hosting some of the most innovative workshops and seminars around. Committee accomplishments include the State Wide All Night Ski Trip, Overnight Canoe trip and State Wide Teen Battle of the Bands Competition events.
